An assessment is generally requested due to current concerns from parents, teachers, and medical professionals regarding an individual's progress academically, socially, behaviourally. and/or emotionally.

Assessment will differ based on a number of factors e.g., the presenting concerns and whether clients have previously engaged in psychometric assessment.
As a guide, a full psycho-educational assessment at Square One Psychology generally involves:
1. Parent Initial Consultation – 1 hour
2. Cognitive (IQ) Assessment – 2 hours
3. Academic and/or Functional Assessment – 2 hours
4. Report Preparation – 3-5 hours
5. Parent and or young person Feedback Consultation – 1 hour
NB: For clients who have engaged in previous psychometric testing, it may not be appropriate to undertake all of the above steps.
A detailed report is provided approximately four weeks after all assessments and questionnaires are completed/returned. The report details the individual’s strengths and weaknesses and includes evidence-based recommendations for supporting the clients identified difficulties.

Psychological assessments can help to understand the uniqueness and strengths of each individual, and provide them and their families with strategies and recommendations to allow for improved participation, engagement and wellbeing within the home, school, and play environments.

While we primarily conduct our assessments in Bunbury, we will consider travelling to other locations across southwest WA, including areas surrounding Busselton, Collie, Dunsborough, Mandurah, Margaret River and Perth.

Please note that assessments conducted outside our testing room will incur a travel fee. This will be discussed with families at time of booking.

Clients who have NDIS packages may only use their funding to cover or partially cover the fees for services at Square One Psychology if their package is self-managed or plan-managed by a third party. Square One Psychology is not a registered provider of services under the NDIS. Therefore, clients who have packages managed directly by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) are unable to use their NDIS funds to pay for services Square One Psychology.

Psychological assessments are unlikely to meet the criteria for rebates through Private Health Funds. Square One Psychology recommends contacting your provider directly to find out more about their coverage.
If Private Health Fund rebates are available, Square One Psychology does not process the rebate in the clinic setting. You will be to apply for a rebate directly with your fund.

Mental Health Care Plans do not cover assessments. You will need to pay the full amount of the full assessment fee.
